Ace the iBT
for your MBA
MBA programs have high TOEFL requirements
Many top MBA programs request TOEFL scores of over 100. MBA programs demand such high scores because communication is at the heart of business. Marketing, sales, managing, and networking all require direct and clear communication. Therefore, MBA schools want a high TOEFL score to be sure that you can speak and write persuasively. For most applicants, achieving 100 or more will require private tutoring so that you can eliminate your own unique grammar and pronunciation errors.
TOEFL vs. GMAT Verbal
Use your TOEFL score to compensate for low GMAT Verbal scores. The GMAT's verbal section doesn't really show how you use your English. Instead it proves that you have memorized a series of grammar rules that most native speakers do not even know. Therefore, your TOEFL score is a much better indicator of your ability to use English in the way that you'll really be using it in Business School. So the higher you can make your TOEFL, the more impressed the MBA admissions committee will be.
TOEFL vs. GMAT Analytical Writing
Once you've learned Strictly English's method of writing the iBT's Independent Essay, then you have the skills you need to write a very strong essay on the GMAT's "Analysis of an Issue" section. In addition, your English will be strong enough to write a powerful response to the GMAT's "Analysis of an Argument."
Begin with TOEFL and Finish Quickly
Many MBA applicants try to do everything at once. They study for TOEFL and GMAT at the same time while they are also writing their admissions essays and updating their resume. Such multitasking usually works against the applicant, who receives lower scores and produces weaker admissions essays. Therefore, if you can, try to work on one task at a time. Beginning with TOEFL makes everything else much easier, because once you have a 100+ on the TOEFL, your language skills are strong enough to do the other tasks more quickly.
